City & County Proclaim October as Mental Health Awareness Month

LAREDO, Texas—This morning, City of Laredo and Webb County proclaimed the month of October as Mental Health Awareness month. During an event outside of the Webb County Courthouse, Mayor Pete Saenz and County Commissioner for Precinct 2 Rosaura “Wawi” Tijerina talked about the importance to shine a light on mental illness and fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for equal care.
One in five adults experience a mental health problem in any given year, and approximately one-half of chronic mental illness begins by the age of 14 and three-quarters by age 24.
