UISD To Resume Athletic and Fine Arts Activities

(Laredo, Tx)-The United ISD (UISD), Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos are pleased to inform our families that band, cheer, dance, and athletic activities at the high school varsity level will resume on Monday, September 21, 2020.
The decision to reactivate these events is based on recent data that indicates a steady decline in local COVID cases. While we are encouraged that case numbers will continue to trend downward, this plan may be altered or postponed if we observe an increase in COVID-19 infections or receive confirmed positive cases amongst our student participants or employees.
Once our sports and fine arts programs are rebooted, we will continue to be vigilant and take all steps necessary to keep everyone healthy. Therefore, UISD will continue to follow strict health safety procedures recommended by TEA, UIL and local health authorities. All students, staff, coaches, visitors and spectators must wear face masks at all UISD facilities and indoor/outdoor UIL events. The masks should fully cover the nose and mouth area. In addition, the district reserves the right to refuse entry or reject any visitor who is unwilling /unable to follow district-wide safety and wellness instructions.
As per UIL guidelines, only (active), students participating in games/events may remove their mask. In order to maintain safe social distancing, a limited number of complimentary tickets will be available to participating students to distribute to their family members and guests. For those unable to obtain tickets, the district will stream the aforementioned activities on UISD’s website and Facebook.
Furthermore, concession stands will not be operational at UISD events, but guests may bring their own water to games. No other beverages or food will be allowed. Given that the current epidemic is a fluid situation, we ask our UISD community to help us keep everyone healthy by adhering to all of the district’s safety guidelines. The health and well-being of every student, family and employee continues to be our top priority.
