Laredo, TX (Webb County) – Webb County Sheriff’s Office Deputies on Friday, September 19, arrested a Mexican national for possession of controlled substance at the 8-mile marker of Interstate 35 southbound.

Deputies observed a white Ford F-250 bearing Mexican license plates traveling south on IH-35 and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. They made contact with the driver, who was identified as Enrique Leal Rivera, 42.

Deputies noticed two black box speakers in the back of the bed of truck and after further investigation, a total of 31 zip lock clear bags, each containing a white crystal-like substance, were discovered. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine and had a total weight of 28.6 kilos, worth an estimated $261,000.

Leal Rivera was charged with possession of control substance felony 1 (Methamphetamine) and remanded to the Webb County Jail with a $30,000 bond.

“I congratulate our deputies for a job well done. These drugs could have ended up in our children’s path. We will continue to fight crime and keep our community safe. I remind the public to report any suspicious activities by calling 956-415-BUST (2878). You can be eligible for a cash reward,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar.
