City of Laredo Appoints New City Attorney

LAREDO, Texas—On Tuesday, September 8, 2020, the Laredo City Council unanimously voted to support the recommendation made by City Manager Robert Eads to appoint Attorney Rene Benavides as the City Attorney for the City of Laredo. He will assume his new responsibilities by October, with Assistant City Manager Kristina Hale continuing her Interim City Attorney role until he steps into his new role.

“I am humbled by the appointment,” said newly appointed Laredo City Attorney Rene Benavides. “I look forward to advancing the interests of the city with a priority in ethics and integrity.”

Benavides’ proven work ethic and commitment to excellence will provide the City with legally sound guidance to help guide important decisions which will be constitutionally protected and will advance the interests of the city.

“I am excited to appoint Rene Benavides as the new City Attorney and welcome him to our team,” said Laredo City Manager Robert Eads. “I am confident in his capabilities based on his stellar educational background and extensive work experience that will help guide our city to new heights. I want to thank Assistant City Manager Kristina Hale for her years of valued service as our City Attorney and for maintaining both important job titles until we found a worthy City Attorney. “
