City, County Confirm New COVID-19 Related Deaths

LAREDO, Texas—The City of Laredo and Webb County have confirmed four more deaths in Webb County related to COVID-19. The City and County want to express their most sincere condolences to the families and want them to know that our counselors and our teams are available to support them.

The 224th death of a Webb County resident was a male in his early 70s. He died on Monday, August 24, 2020.

The 225th death of a Webb County resident was a male in his mid-70s. He died on Wednesday, July 22, 2020.

The 226th death of a Webb County resident was a male in his early 80s. He died on Sunday, August 23, 2020.

The 227th death of a Webb County resident was a female in her mid-60s. She died on Monday, August 24, 2020.

Stay home if you are sick and call your doctor. Do not go to the doctor’s office, call your doctor first. If it is an emergency, call 9-1-1.

As of 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2020, a total of 30,096 people have been tested, 10,164 have resulted positive (934 are active), 125 test results are pending, 9,168 persons have estimated recovered, 165 are currently hospitalized (66 of which are in the ICU), five patients are currently admitted at the alternate care site, and 227 have died.

In order to safeguard legally-protected information, the City of Laredo is not publically releasing personal or identifiable information regarding any cases as it relates to COVID-19 testing, results or monitoring.

Please continue to do your part in preventing the spread of all diseases. Follow the guidelines below:

· Follow CDC and WHO guidelines and practice physical distancing

· Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Hand sanitizer can be used when soap and water are not readily available

· Wear a mask or face covering

· Avoid touching your face

· Avoid close contact with people who are sick

· Stay home when you’re sick

· Cover all coughs and sneezes

· Clean frequently-touched surfaces
