City, County Confirm New COVID-19 Related Deaths

LAREDO, Texas—The City of Laredo and Webb County have confirmed the 37th, 38th and 39th deaths in Webb County related to COVID-19. The City and County want to express their most sincere condolences to the families and want them to know that our counselors and our teams are available to support them.
The 37th and 38th deaths were reported yesterday evening by the City of Laredo.
The 37th COVID-19 death of a Webb County resident was a male in his late 60s with underlying health conditions. The person died at Doctors Hospital of Laredo E.R. on Tuesday, July 4, 2020 and the cause of death was determined by Webb County Medical Examiner Corinne Stern, D.O.
The 38th COVID-19 death of a Webb County resident was a female in her early 60s with underlying health conditions. The person was being treated at Doctors Hospital of Laredo when she died on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.
The 39th COVID-19 death of a Webb County resident was a male in his late 70s with underlying health conditions. The person died at a local nursing home on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.
The City of Laredo Health Department continues to conduct contact investigation on persons who have tested positive to determine possible exposure to others. If the health department has not contacted you, there is no need to take any action at this time. If you feel ill, please contact your physician and monitor your symptoms.
Stay home if you are sick and call your doctor. Do not go to the doctor’s office, call your doctor first. If it is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
As of 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2020, a total of 11,519 test have been submitted, 7,955 of those tests have resulted negative, 2,405 have resulted positive (1,519 are active), 1,159 test results are pending, 847 persons have recovered, 122 are currently hospitalized (38 of which are in the ICU), and 39 have died.
In order to safeguard legally-protected information, the City of Laredo is not publically releasing personal or identifiable information regarding any cases as it relates to COVID-19 testing, results or monitoring.
Please continue to do your part in preventing the spread of all diseases. Follow the guidelines below:
· Follow CDC and WHO guidelines and practice physical distancing
· Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Hand sanitizer can be used when soap and water are not readily available.
· It is recommended to wear a mask or face covering
· Avoid touching your face
· Avoid close contact with people who are sick
· Stay home when you’re sick
· Cover all coughs and sneezes
· Clean frequently-touched surfaces
