World Trade Bridge Officers Seize Marijuana Worth Over $500K

LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the World Trade Bridge intercepted narcotics totaling over $500,000 in street value.

“Frontline officers at the World Trade Bridge demonstrated their commitment to the CBP mission by intercepting over a ton of marijuana over the weekend,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry.

One enforcement action occurred on Sunday, June 21st, when CBP officers assigned to the cargo facility encountered a tractor hauling an empty refrigerated trailer arriving from Mexico. The 2007 Freightliner tractor and trailer were referred for a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, resulting in the discovery of 226 packages containing 1552.92 pounds of alleged marijuana concealed within the trailer. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $310,584.

The second seizure occurred when officers encountered another empty reefer arriving from Mexico. The 1995 GMC tractor and refrigerated trailer were referred for a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, resulting in the discovery of 123 packages containing 1161.39 pounds of alleged marijuana concealed within the trailer. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $232,276.

The narcotics have a combined estimated street value of $542,860.

CBP seized the narcotics and two trailers. The cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
