Laredo, TX (Webb County) – The Webb County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into the narcotics found inside a vehicle recently purchased at an auction in the Rio Grande Valley.

On Saturday, a Laredo man reported to the Sheriff’s Office that he had possibly discovered narcotics in a hidden compartment inside the vehicle he purchased at the auction.

As deputies arrived, they were shown the compartment and pulled out 17 plastic-wrapped bundles. A K-9 alerted to a second hidden compartment where another 17 bundles were discovered. The 34 packages, which tested positive for cocaine, weighed 34 kilos – or 74.96 pounds – and had an estimated street value of $850,000.

“I thank and congratulate the person who alerted us to the drugs. Had he not been an honest individual, the drugs could have ended up in the wrong hands,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “I encourage the public to report any crime or suspicious activity by calling our hotline at 956-415-BUST (2878). You may be eligible for a cash reward.”
