(Laredo, Texas)-The United ISD Child Nutrition Department has been on the front line of providing nutritious meals to the students of United ISD and the community at 18 of its campuses and 9 bus routes since March 23rd. As of June 11, the department has served 1 million Grab and Go meal kits! Each kit includes breakfast and lunch, and is distributed in the front parking area or clearing of each site on a drive-through basis.
“All of us in the Child Nutrition Department wish to thank our lunch heroes and additional personnel for their extraordinary service during these trying times. Their efforts and extra precautions have ensured the safe distribution of 1 million Grab and Go Meals to our students and the community during the recent COVID pandemic. We are excited about having achieved this milestone”, said Child Food Services operations manager Aryana Valdez.
The Grab and Go food distribution service will remain active until July 31, 2020. Grab and Go meals are served Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the 18 participating schools – and Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at the 9 designated bus routes.
