LAREDO, TEXAS (Webb County) – The Webb County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into a load of drugs seized Thursday morning on the 25 mile marker of Interstate 35 north bound.
Deputies working enforcement efforts stopped to assist a stranded motorist, but observed that the woman was acting nervous and giving conflicting stories. Upon further inspecting the vehicle, deputies noticed the red Nissan Rogue had signs of tampering.
Inside the gas tank, deputies discovered 41.6 pounds of cocaine that were hidden in 13 bundles. The cocaine had an estimated street value of $418,000.
“I congratulate my deputies for their tenacity in continuing to eradicate these drugs off our streets,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “They could have very easily ended up in the wrong hands, especially our children, who is our most vulnerable population.”
Sheriff Cuellar reminds the community to please report any suspicious activity by calling the Sheriff’s Office hotline at 956-415-BUST (2878). You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
The investigation continues.
