(McAllen, Tx)-This year’s McAllen Independence Day Celebration, presented by H-E-B, while very different from previous years, will continue to festive and patriotic. The annual Independence Day Celebration will take place virtually in the days leading up to Saturday, July 4, 2020, with a program of activities airing that day on the City of McAllen’s own Public. Education. Government. channel, McAllen Cable Network Spectrum Channel 1300, culminating with the live Concert in the Sky Extravaganza, featuring fireworks and a patriotic musical spectacular, provided by KURV-710 AM.

“Now, more than ever, we need to celebrate all the freedoms we enjoy as Americans,” said McAllen Mayor Jim Darling. “While we may not be able to celebrate with parades and festivals, the liberties we have are precious and must be protected and celebrated. This year, we may not celebrate together, but we will celebrate the spirit of America in new and inventive ways, which is what our country always does best when faced with crisis.”

As the City of McAllen prepares to celebrate America’s 244th birthday independent of the usually large crowds at its many activities, residents can start getting into the 4th of July spirit today, with many social media activities that include decorating homes, sharing that 4th of July spirit, crafts and activities, and a virtual Independence Day 4K. On July 4, 2020, celebrate Independence Day with a truly red, white and blue program running all day long on MCN 1300, kicking off with a veterans-themed 4th of July musical presentation; best of the best Independence Day Parade re-airings; other civic-minded, patriotic and 4th of July programs; and all culminating with the live airing of the Concert in Sky Extravaganza. McAllen residents who are Spectrum cable subscribers may watch the 4th of July program on Spectrum cable channel MCN 1300.
