Laredo CBP Officers Seize $700K in Hard Narcotics in One Enforcement Action

LAREDO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge intercepted hard narcotics totaling over $700,000 in street value.
“Drug trafficking organizations are persistent in their attempts to smuggle hard narcotics into the United States,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “Through hard work and vigilance we will continue to intercept these dangerous drugs before they can harm our communities.”
The seizure occurred on Monday, June 29th when a CBP officer assigned to the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge referred a commercial bus making entry from Mexico for secondary inspection. A 40-year-old male United States citizen passenger voluntarily presented his belongings for a non-intrusive imaging system examination, resulting in the discovery of 126 packages containing 35.22 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within his baggage.
The narcotics have a combined estimated street value of $704,590.
CBP seized the narcotics. The passenger was arrested and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
