City of Laredo Honors Contribution of LEDC CEO Olivia Varela

LAREDO, Texas—The City of Laredo today issued a proclamation to honor Olivia Varela, recently retired CEO of the Laredo Economic Development Corporation (LEDC).

Varela is a Laredo native and received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and attended the Public Administration Graduate Studies Program at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Furthermore, she completed professional advancement studies at the Dale Carnegie Masters Program for Professional Sales and Marketing and completed the Economic Development Institute Training in Oklahoma, and the Basic Industrial Development Program at Texas A&M University at College Station.

Varela has over 14 years of experience in trade and economic development and was most recently the CEO of the LEDC since April 2013.

“Olivia Varela has been an integral part of our local business community,” said Mayor Pete Saenz. “Through her leadership, Laredo entrepreneurs have been able to receive the guidance and support they need to be successful in business. The LEDC has also provided invaluable support towards the development of our city and has helped to increase both the quantity and the quality of jobs and life for our residents. It is my privilege and honor to recognize such an outstanding citizen and business leader. We wish her the best during retirement.”
