LAREDO, Texas—The City of Laredo is providing an update regarding a health care worker at a local nursing home. The health care worker in question first tested negative during routine testing of workers on May 20. The worker had been sent home for a low-grade fever and was quarantined and returned to work on June 8 and tested the same day. Results from that test returned positive on June 9. The health care worker was tested again that same day and results returned negative on June 10. The worker is at home while contact tracing investigations and further testing are underway at the nursing home. At this time no other workers or patients have tested positive.
“Our investigation and mitigation of the positive nursing home case that was reported at Wednesday’s City of Laredo media briefing is still ongoing,” said City of Laredo Health Authority Victor Treviño, M.D. “We would like the public and the local media to know that we are always evaluating the balance between the privacy rights of the patients and these facilities versus the public’s right to receive accurate and timely information. Because of the time-sensitive nature of these contact tracing investigations, we will keep the public informed as non-private information develops.”
