Busy Night for Laredo Sector Border Patrol Agents who Located and Helped Lost Individuals

LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Laredo Sector had a busy night as agents from multiple stations and search and rescue teams worked to locate and render aid to individuals who were lost in remote areas near Laredo.
The first incident occurred on the early evening of June 18, when a 911 call was transferred to the Hebbronville Station (HEB) from the Jim Hogg County Sheriff’s Office. The call was from an individual who claimed that he and his brother were lost in the brush. The caller stated he was suffering from cramps and was on the brink of exhaustion. HEB agents responded to the reported coordinates southeast of Hebbronville, Texas to search for the two lost men. Approximately two hours after receiving the call, HEB agents located the two individuals. Neither man was in need of immediate medical attention. They were determined to be illegally in the United States from the country of Mexico, and were transported to a Border Patrol facility to be processed accordingly.
The second incident occurred later that evening, when another emergency call was received by the Laredo South Station (LRS) regarding a lost woman in the brush south of Laredo. The caller reported that the woman was unable to walk and was possibly dehydrated. LRS agents, along with agents from the Mobile Response Team and the Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue Unit, responded to the reported area. Less than an hour after receiving the call, agents found the woman by herself in a local ranch. Border Patrol paramedics quickly assessed her medical condition and began administering intravenous fluids. The agents transported the woman to a nearby road where they were met by Emergency Medical Services (EMS). EMS technicians transported the woman to a local hospital for further treatment. The woman was determined to be from Mexico and illegally in the United States. She remains in Border Patrol custody pending her medical clearance.
Even with the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Laredo Sector continue to render aid to those in need. These two rescues serve as a reminder of the dangers the summer heat poses to people who enter the U.S. illegally in remote areas. By abandoning individuals in these remote areas, smugglers continue to show their lack of regard for the lives they endanger and exploit for profit.
