(Laredo, Texas)-United ISD held its 7th Annual Spelling Bee for students in grades 3-8 at the SAC Auditorium. Thirty-nine (39) contestants representing United ISD elementary and middle schools competed on stage in front of an audience comprised of friends, family, and District staff. All students in the District Spelling Bee qualified for the competition by winning first place at their respective campus spelling bees.
After eighteen intense rounds plus the championship word, Niurka Sandoval, a 7th grader at Trautmann Middle School, eased into a 1st place ranking. Other winners included John Bridges, an 8th grader at United South Middle School. Bridges took the 2nd place trophy. Kayla Vu, a 6th grader from Clark Middle and a seasoned veteran earned third place.
All 39 contestants from United ISD’s 7th Annual Spelling Bee will enter the City-Wide Spelling Bee scheduled for March 28, 2020, at LC. Their competitors will include students from Laredo ISD and area private schools.
