Army National Guardsman Wanted on Charges of Conspiracy to Commit a Crime in California Arrested in Laredo

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Tuesday, January 21, at approximately 10:35 a.m, the Webb County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division received a telephone call from the Beaumont, California, Police Department advising that a suspect they were looking for was in Laredo.
On Wednesday morning, the Sheriff’s Office arrested Jovan Lamont McClelland, 21, an active Army National Guardsman assigned to the Laredo area, on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime (homicide). He was transported to the Webb County Jail pending magistration and extradition to California.
According to the Beaumont California Police Department, McClelland admitted to being at the scene of a homicide that occurred in 2018 in Beaumont, California.
“I congratulate our Warrants Division for an exemplary job,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “With this arrest, we have made our streets safer and have brought one more person to justice.”
