Courtesy Lauren Cavazos,

The United Independent School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos are pleased to announce Gloria S. Rendon as the newly appointed Deputy Superintendent for Administration and Operations.

Mrs. Rendon is a 28-year veteran educator of United ISD with an extensive background in education. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University at Kingsville, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Education with a certification in grade 1-8 education, Reading and Bilingual education.   She earned a Master of Science in Education from Texas A&M International University with certifications in Mid-Management and School Counseling and later went on to complete her Superintendent Certification.

For the past four years, she has served United ISD as Associate Superintendent for Administration.  Prior to working as Associate Superintendent for Administration, she served as the Assistant Superintendent for Administration, the Assistant to the Superintendent, District Area Administrator, Interim Principal at D.D. Hachar Elementary, and Assistant Principal at Finley Elementary.  In the years preceding her administrative appointment, she served as an elementary counselor and educator at Finley Elementary.

Mrs. Rendon’s passion for being an educator has allowed her to amass a number of distinctions.  While serving as Assistant Principal at Finley, the campus became the first school in United ISD history to be named a National Blue Ribbon School.  She also spearheaded an initiative with Webb County Head Start Officials to implement a full-day Pre-Kindergarten program, which has now expanded to eight district campuses.  Mrs. Rendon also established an optional Flexible School Day program at Lyndon B. Johnson High School and collaborated with Laredo College administrators to expand the District’s dual credit course offerings in all four high schools.  Mrs. Rendon also established the Teacher of the Year Recognition Program with Powell-Watson Motors and created the last two District-wide campaigns which encompassed the We Are United ISD theme.

As the Deputy Superintendent, Mrs. Rendon will assume the role of Superintendent in Mr. Santos’ absence.  She will be responsible for the daily administrative operations of the District and oversight of the departments.  In addition, she will provide support to school-based and District-level administrators, coordination of efforts and general support of the decision-making process and district improvement initiatives as well as assist the Superintendent with duties of that office.

Mrs. Rendon will assume her newly appointed position effective immediately.
