Continuing Resolution Contains No Money for Border Wall
Washington, D.C.— Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) voted for a Continuing Resolution (CR) that will extend federal government funding through December 20th, allowing additional time for lawmakers to complete the formal appropriations process. This resolution will also fund critical programs for the people of the 28th District of Texas, including Medicare, Medicaid, an accurate Census, the Highway Trust Fund, and a 3.1% pay raise for the military.
“I voted for the continuing resolution to provide much-needed budget certainty to families, businesses, and communities across South Texas, while giving my colleagues and I more time to complete negotiations on appropriations bills,” said Congressman Cuellar. “I cannot in good conscious vote to shut down the government and leave 44,000 hard-working federal employees and their families without a paycheck. People across the country could cumulatively lose over $200 million dollars of wages per workday by shutting down the government.”
“The resolution also funds critical programs for my constituents, including fully funding a fair and accurate 2020 Decennial Census and give our military a 3.1% pay raise. This CR extends funding for public health programs, including Community Health Centers, as well as Medicaid and Medicare. I became a member of Congress to serve my constituents by providing services such as health care and supporting our military; not by shutting down the government.”
As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to work to enact responsible legislation that provides funding for departments, agencies and programs that benefit my constituents. I want to thank Chairwoman Nita Lowey for her leadership as we continue our appropriations process.”
