Laredo, TX – This week, the Emergency Food and Shelter (EFSP) National Board conducted informational sessions in South Texas, including Laredo, San Antonio and McAllen. During these sessions, EFSP provided useful information regarding the Supplemental Appropriations for Humanitarian Assistance funding and the application process for reimbursement. Earlier this year, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced over $304,000 in humanitarian reimbursements for Webb County as part of a $30 million funding package the Congressman secured, which will return funding to dozens of other municipalities and nonprofits across Texas and the United States. These organizations include the Holding Institute, Catholic Social Services and Bethany House.

“It is critical that the EFSP National Board works with local entities who have gone above and beyond in providing care to migrants at our southern border in the reimbursement process,” said Congressman Cuellar. “During these sessions, members of community organizations and local governments interested in applying have the opportunity to learn about the application process, eligibility and documentation required to qualify for reimbursements. This information is crucial and we want our community members to be well-informed as the second round of applications are approaching.

“As the Vice Chair of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, I will continue to work with both the National Board as well as local governments and organizations to ensure our communities are properly reimbursed for their work. I encourage local stakeholders to contact my office for any questions or concerns regarding the second round of applications. I want to thank the local entities who remain committed to providing humanitarian assistance.”
