Funds will be used to improve and modernize airport’s apron
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) and the City of Laredo announced a $9,856,303.00 federal grant to rehabilitate the airport’s apron, the area where aircrafts are parked, loaded and unloaded. These federal funds were awarded through the Department of Transportation Airport Improvement Program.
The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports to improve airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental concerns.
“As the Laredo International Airport becomes a leader in international trade air traffic and a key hub for tourism, it is critical that our infrastructure and transportation system is up to date and prepared for the higher demand” said Congressman Cuellar. “These funds will be used to modernize the apron so we can achieve high levels of safety and efficiency at our airport.”
“As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to support investments in our transportation and infrastructure to increase economic growth in our community and across the nation. I would like to thank Mayor Pete Saenz, Interim Co-City Managers Robert Eads and Rosario Cabello, Laredo International Airport Director Jeffrey Miller and all who helped to secure this critical funding. I would also like to thank Senator Cornyn for supporting key infrastructure projects in Texas.”
