The District Attorney’s Office has secured a guilty plea in its case against Antonio Salinas, 65, who plead guilty to possessing child pornography.

On June 13, 2017, employees of a car dealership found a USB drive containing child pornography belonging to local gynecologist, Antonio Salinas after he dropped off his vehicle for a diagnostic check. A Laredo police officer responded to a call from a local dealership after two employees stated that they found what they believed to be child pornography in a USB drive during an inspection of Salinas’ Ford F-150. The photos found on the USB files appeared to be of young girls between the ages of 11-14 years of age. Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit continued the investigation by consulting with the District Attorney’s Office and securing a search warrant of the USB drive and laptop found in Salinas’ vehicle. Investigators then executed search warrants at his workplace and residence where other electronic devices that contained explicit child images were also recovered.

On June 23, 2017, Antonio Salinas turned himself in at police headquarters after he was charged with possession of child pornography. Antonio Salinas was indicted on 36 counts of child pornography, a third degree felony in the State of Texas and subsequently arrested on September 8, 2017.

Antonio Salinas plead guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography before the 406th District Court. The execution of his sentence will be suspended pending his appeal process. The agreed punishment for count I is two years to serve at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institution Division and for count II, 10 years probated for 10 years with 600 hours of community service.

Salinas was granted a bond pending the remedy of his appeal. He will also continue attending therapy sessions and must register as a sex offender.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Marisela S. Jacaman prosecuted this case for the State.
