LAREDO, Texas—The City of Laredo, City of Laredo Utilities and the Health Department want to let you know that a boil water notice initially for certain sectors of South Laredo has been issued for the entire city as a precautionary measure due to lower levels of chlorine than the standard in certain sectors of South Laredo, even though there was never any finding of bacteria but our first responsibility is to the safety and wellness of all the residents of Laredo. To collaborate with the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality (TCEQ) due to administrative and statutory rules we are issuing a citywide boil water notice.

We continue to assure the public that we continue to systematically test and retest the system to assure we have adequate levels of chlorine for safe drinking water.

For now, all persons city-wide should adhere to the following during the water boil notice:

Currently tap water can only be used for:

·       Showering preferably only adults

·       Flushing toilets

·       Watering of plants

To cook, drink, and consumer you must:

·       Boil the water (3 minutes) or use bottled water (this includes for pets)

Restaurants must:

·       Not use tap water for consumption

·       Boil water for cooking or use bottled water

·       Have all employees must use hand sanitizer and dry hands or use bottled water to was with soap

·       Make sure all ice makers will have to be drained, flushed, sanitize and reused with boiled water, bottled water or wait until the boil water is lifted (can buy bags of ice)
