LAREDO, Texas—The City of Laredo Parking Division, together with the Laredo Police Department will begin issuing citations for the misuse of disabled placards in the downtown area beginning this week.
The City has received various complaints in regards to downtown parking being taken up by others misusing placards for the disabled. In an effort to ensure that downtown parking for the disabled is strictly used by those with disabilities, police officers will be on hand to issue citations to those who are using the disabled parking placards illegally. Initial citations will start at $500, and can go up to $1,100 for the third offense.
A person is committing an offense if they:
· Lend a disabled parking placard
· Do not have a disability
· Are not transporting someone with a disability
· Do not pay applicable fees related to standing in a parking meter or area imposed by a governmental unit or exceeds a limitation on the length of time standing in the space
