Rep. Cuellar Joins Speaker Pelosi on Congressional Delegation to the Northern Triangle and McAllen, Texas

Washington, D.C.—This week Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) is joining U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (CA-12) on a congressional delegation to Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras to have discussions with representatives of the government, the judiciary, civil society, community and faith-based groups, the private sector, and human rights organizations. After the visit to Central America, Congressman Cuellar and the rest of the delegation will travel to McAllen, Texas to see conditions for migrants from Central America at the detention centers and speak with community and faith-based leaders who provide humanitarian aid to migrants.

Other members of the congressional delegation include Representatives Eliot Engel (NY-16), Nydia Velazquez (NY-7), Jim McGovern (MA-2), Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40), Norma Torres (CA-35), Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen (American Samoa), Anthony Brown (MD-4), Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-5), Katie Hill (CA-25), Lauren Underwood (IL-14), and Jesús García (IL-4).

 “The Northern Triangle of Central America has seen unprecedented levels of migration to the U.S. due to extreme levels of violence, corruption, food insecurity, and lack of economic opportunities,” said Congressman Cuellar. “To properly address the challenges El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala are facing, we need to strengthen our relationship and reaffirm our shared value with these countries. As a delegation, we will work together to creates strategies toimprove security, economic development and governance in these countries.”

“I want to thank Speaker Pelosi and the rest of the congressional delegation for demonstrating their commitment to the people of Central America by addressing the structural factors of migration.”
