The District Attorney’s Office reports that Joe Angel Landin has plead guilty in connection to a fatal shooting.  On August 8, 2017, the Laredo Police Department Communications Division received several calls regarding shots fired on the 3100 block of San Luis Street. Upon arrival, an LPD officer observed a male subject laying on the ground with several gunshot wounds to his body and head.

The officer immediately made contact with the victim’s mother who identified the victim, Jose Roberto Capetillo, as her son. The officer also made contact with neighbors who observed a black in color car leaving the area after hearing gunshots. Witnesses also stated to authorities that the shots came from a known drug house in the neighborhood. Through the investigation, officers identified the person of interest as Jose Angel Landin, who fled to Mexico after shooting Capetillo. Capetillo later succumbed to his death due to his injuries.

On December 12, 2017, Joe Angel Landin was arrested in San Diego, California as he tried to enter the country after remaining at large for four months. He was subsequently charged with murder, a first-degree felony in the State of Texas.

Joe Angel Landin plead guilty to one count of manslaughter, a second-degree felony before the 111th District Court. Landin was sentenced to 20 years to serve, the maximum punishment for a second-degree felony.  He will begin his sentence immediately at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institution Division.

Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Castillo prosecuted the case for the State.
