Man Found Guilty for Evading Arrest

The Office of the District Attorney reports a guilty verdict for Gerardo Lozano Jr. for evading arrest.  The case came to light on March 9, 2018, when a Laredo Police Department officer was patrolling on the south side of the city. While traveling southbound on Ejido Ave., the officer noticed a white in color Chrysler 300 with dark tinted windows cross Ejido and turn onto Exodus Dr.

The officer proceeded to turn on his lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop. The driver stopped a block away and the officer noticed the right passenger door slightly open. The vehicle then began to drive off slowly and sped off continuing south bound on Caroline Street.

The suspect in the vehicle disregarded stop signs, continued to drive over the speed limit through a residential neighborhood and stopped once it reached a dead end on Exodus Dr. The defendant, who was later identified as Gerardo Lozano Jr., stepped out of the vehicle and put his hands up, complying with the officer’s verbal commands.

Gerardo Lozano Jr. was placed under arrest and charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle, a State Jail Felony in the State of Texas.

The one-day trial took place before the 49th District Court Judge Jose Lopez. The jury rendered their guilty verdict after an hour of deliberation. Sentencing for the defendant is scheduled on July 19, 2019 after a pre-sentence investigation is conducted.

Assistant District Attorneys Pete Morales and Joaquin Rodriguez  prosecuted the case for the State.
