The United Independent School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos are pleased to announce Monica Arriaga as the new Principal of Kazen Elementary School.
Mrs. Arriaga is a 19-year veteran of the district with a vast background, both in the classroom and at the district and school administrative level. She earned a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Mathematics and a Master of Science in Education with a major in Educational Administration from Texas A&M International University.
For the past eight years, Mrs. Arriaga has served as an Assistant Principal at Kazen Elementary, Nye Elementary, Centeno Elementary, and Judith Zaffirini Elementary. Prior to that, she also served as an Algebra I and Geometry teacher at John B. Alexander High School.
Ms. Arriaga stated, “First and foremost, I would like to thank Mr. Santos and all the board members for providing me the opportunity to represent the Mines Road community as the new Abraham Kazen Elementary Principal. It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I return to Kazen after having served as Assistant Principal to Mrs. Mary Arambula from 2011-2016. Kazen is currently an “A” campus and I plan to keep the campus on top by closely working with students, teachers, and parents. The teachers at Kazen are self-driven, dedicated, and committed to delivering nothing but high quality instruction. Bobby Knight, a very successful basketball coach, once stated, ‘Most people have the will to win, few have the will to prepare to win.’ At Kazen, the teachers and students have both. I am looking forward to an amazing school year!
Mrs. Arriaga succeeds Mrs. Maria H. Arambula-Ruiz who has accepted the Director of Bilingual Education position.
Mrs. Arriaga will assume her newly appointed position in July 2019.
