LBJ Early College High School Graduates First Class

(Laredo, Texas)-UISD is pleased to announce the graduation of 95 students from the Lyndon B. Johnson High School (LBJHS), Early College High School Program(ECHS). The students received their Associates of Arts degrees at a graduation ceremony held at the Sames Auto Arena on May 10, 2019. The graduates are the first to benefit from the program. Launched in 2015, the program allows students to graduate from high school with up to 60 hours of transferable college credit oran Associate’s Degree.
The goal of early college high school is to provide students with rigorous curriculum that prepares them to succeed at the collegeand university level. With early experience in undergraduate studies, students have the advantage of a smoother transition between high school and the collegeof their choice. In addition, ECHS programs help students develop a college-levelmentality, which can help them handle heavy workloads and balance school anda social life.
“Higher education is a necessity in today’s workforce, so attendingan early college program while still in high school is a proactive way to ensure that students are on a clear path towards obtaining a college degree,” said ECHS Dean Yesenia Sandoval.
