Henry Cuellar Elementary School Certified As “Leader in Me” Lighthouse School by Franklin Covey Education

(Laredo, Texas)-United ISD is proud to announce that Henry Cuellar Elementary School has been certified as a 2017-2018 Leader In Me Lighthouse School for 2017-2018. The Leader In Me is a whole school transformation process that empowers students with leadership and life skills to thrive in the 21st century. The program is based on the standard that every child has unique strengths and talents that they can use to lead. Certification is achieved when a campus implements the The Leader In Me plan successfully.
Cuellar Elementary School used compulsory Lighthouse School Rubrics to measure outcomes in three areas: teaching leadership principles, creating a leadership culture, and aligning academic systems. The Lighthouse Review Team made its final evaluation using an on-line evidence binder, class observations, interviews with students, parents and staff, and additional measures to assess the school’s performance against the Lighthouse Rubric.
Having achieved Extraordinary Achievement in Leadership status, the school is now one of over 2,000 public, private, charter and magnet schools across 35 countries to be certified by the highly regarded standard. “United ISD is celebrating the certification of Cuellar Elementary as a Lighthouse School. The Board of Trustees and I are very proud of Ms. Shinn’s leadership at Cuellar Elementary. We also praise the incredible work and effort put forth by her teachers and staff. We are equally proud that Cuellar Elementary School is an exemplar to our community and other schools,” said United ISD Superintendent Roberto J. Santos.
