Alexander High School Senior Awarded Gates Scholarship

(Laredo, Texas)-A John B. Alexander High School graduating senior received yet another honor after being named Valedictorian of his class. Ian Limarte was notified that he is the latest recipient of the renowned Bill Gates Scholarship. He is one of 300 students across the nation to receive this scholarship. With an impressive GPA and academia resume Limarte is surely to find success past his years with United ISD.

Limarte is the Valedictorian of his class and has plans to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) this coming fall. He is a member of the National Honor Society, John B. Alexander Robotics Team, and active in multiple UIL teams. Over the course of his academic career Limarte has made his mark as being a dedicated student as well as a leader among his classmates. When he’s not studying for the next competition or exam, you can find Limarte helping local nearby communities by participating in service projects or tutoring his peers.

“I am grateful to have been selected for The Gates Scholarship,” stated Limarte who currently holds a 5.1782 weighted GPA because of his Advanced Placement classes. Unweighted his GPA is a perfect 4.0. “Attending MIT is a phenomenal opportunity for me to learn from the best professors in the studies I want to pursue a career in” he stated. “I am very excited about beginning this next chapter in my life” added Ian.

The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective program which selects candidates from all over the country based on not only academic merits, but involvement in the community as well. The highly regarded program is best known because of it’s founder Bill Gates, who created the foundation to assist minority, low-income families fully pay for college. The concept behind the foundation is to  eliminate the financial burden of paying for college, students will not only thrive, but they’ll reach their maximum potential. In addition to providing financial support the foundation also provides recipients of this scholarship with a myriad of resources all geared to assist students find success throughout their collegiate careers.
