Juarez-Lincoln Elementary 4th grade students Adamari Perez and Sophia Ledesma initiate the Honor Society Induction

(Laredo, Texas)-Juarez-Lincoln Elementary School held a special ceremony to welcome 40 students (in grades 3-5), into the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS). The National Elementary Honor Society is one of the most prestigious distinctions that can be awarded to an elementary student. The society honors students who have excelled in five areas: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character. The aforementioned are determined through student activities, volunteering, and teacher evaluations. Principal Roberto G. Ortiz said that he was very proud of the new inductees. “I would like to congratulate our parents and family members for their invaluable support it is because they are our students primary educators, playing a key role in their social, personal and academic development,” said Ortiz.
Keynote speaker, Blas Castañeda is a life long educator who has dedicated over 35 years to paving the way for the youth of Laredo. He was one of the founders of the District V College bound scholarships that has now been in existence for nearly 30 years. His Mission in life is to promote a strong sense of values, education, and work ethics. Castañeda talked about his life’s struggles growing up in migrant family, the challenges he was faced with and the successes he has achieved thus far. He encouraged all to strive high and to remember that, “Success is not measured by race, culture or wealth.”
