UISD to Host ISD Region XIV Middle School Bands Concert, January 28

(Laredo, Texas)-The United Independent School District and the District’s Fine Arts Department will host the Region XIV Middle School Bands concert at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Student Activity Complex Auditorium located at 5208 Santa Claudia Lane.
Middle school band students from Laredo and United ISD’s, who competed on January 13 and 14 and received the highest scores by performing prepared musical etudes for a panel of judges will be the individuals performing at this music concert. In total, about 230 students qualified (includes both Laredo and United ISD) to be in one of the three region bands.
“Congratulations to these outstanding middle school band students,” said United ISD Superintendent Roberto J. Santos. “Your dedication and commitment is to be admired and United ISD is very proud of you.”
United ISD Fine Arts Director Javier Vera, echoed the Superintendent’s comments. “A heartfelt congratulations to all of these students. Qualifying to play in one of the regional bands is a great accomplishment and honor. It is my sincere wish that these students continue to pursue their love of music.”
At the event, there will be three guest conductors for the regional middle school bands. These guest instructors will be: Ronnie Rios from Harlingen High School, Frank Foster from Wagner High School and Carlos Gil, former band director at United South High School.
The first concert starts at 4:00 PM and will feature the Concert Band, followed by the Symphonic Band and concluding with the Honors Band.
Admission is $2.00 for adults, $1.00 for students. These concerts are open to the public.
