(Laredo, Texas)-The Office of the District Attorney reports the guilty verdict for Alejandro G. Sandoval, who was charged with assault causing bodily injury family violence from an incident where he assaulted his common-law wife.
The case came to light on April 12, 2015, when the Laredo Police Department Communications Division received a call to report an assault on the 600 block of N. Jarvis Ave. Upon arrival, the LPD Officer met with the victim, Lorena Hernandez, who had visible injuries to her right eye and the right side of her face was swollen. Hernandez first stated to the LPD officer that her husband had punched her after an argument ensued. A few minutes later, she recanted her story and told the officer that the defendant never laid a hand on her.
After a full investigation was conducted and LPD officers talked to other witnesses, they had enough probable cause to arrest Alejandro G. Sandoval. Sandoval was placed under arrest and charged with assault causing bodily injury family violence, a Class A misdemeanor in the State of Texas.
The trial which took place before the County Court at Law I Judge Hugo D. Martinez was heard by a jury who after less than an hour of deliberation rendered their guilty verdict. The defendant elected to have the judge assess punishment. Alejandro Sandoval will be sentenced by Judge Martinez after a pre-sentence investigation is conducted.
Assistant District Attorneys Pedro A. Guajardo, Rodolfo “Rudy” Morales III and Alvaro Aguirre prosecuted the case for the State.
