(Laredo, Texas)-Law enforcement individuals representing various entities turned out at a press conference this morning to remind the community about United ISD’s 6th Annual 5K Run/Walk and Health Fair that will take place on January 21, 2017 at the Student Activity Complex located at 5208 Santa Claudia Lane.

Proceeds from the event will benefit United ISD students with scholarships to college. The event is extra special to the District because United ISD is dedicating them to first responders, military and law enforcement personnel of the community.

The event will also honor the memory of two very special educators who passed away in 2015. Adriana Rodriguez, who was a 2nd grade teacher from Ruiz Elementary School and Karina Villarreal, was a teacher at St. Augustine Elementary School and started her career in education as a teacher aide at Clark Middle School.

At the event, United ISD Police Chief Clemente Camarillo issued a challenge to all city, state, and federal law enforcement and emergency agencies encouring them to partcipate in the event.

On-site registration for the 5K Run/Walk will be held on January 21 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. A program dedicated to first responders, military and law enforcement personnel as well as Rodriguez and Villarreal will be held from 8:30 to 8:50 a.m. with the race starting at 9:00 a.m. Registration and the Health Fair will be held inside the Gonzalez Middle School gym which is located at the SAC Stadium Complex Area. Medals to the top three winners (male and female) will be given out for each age division (10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29,30-39,40-49,50-59, and 60+).

The Health Fair will include various community and non-profit organizations that will give out items and offer health screenings to participants.

Paid registration for each of these events includes a t-shirt and goody bag and ticket for door prize giveaway. Information about both events can be found at the District’s website at www.uisd.net.
