(Laredo, Texas)-Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar and representatives from his department dropped by Kennedy-Zapata elementary school to donate 50 backpacks to Pre-K to fifth grade students. Funding for the purchase of the backpacks came from the non- profit Star of Hope charity foundation created by Sheriff Cuellar and his wife, Mrs. Veronica Cuellar. Recently, the foundation has also donated books to children at the Sacred Heart Children’s Home.
“It gives us great pleasure to assist the children of our community with their educational needs. It is equally gratifying to see the smiles on their faces when they receive the donated items”, said Cuellar. Kennedy-Zapata Principal Thelma Martinez said that Sheriff Cuellar and his department have made various contributions to the children at her campus over the past few years. “I wish to thank Sheriff Cuellar, his department, and the Star of Hope charity foundation helping our kids. It’s also significant that they spotlight the needs of students throughout our community,” she said. The Star of Hope foundation accepts donations and hosts year-round fundraisers to purchase essential school supplies for local students.
