United ISD Summer School 2016

Courtesy Carmen Rendon,

(Laredo, Texas)-United ISD continuously works to enhance the education of students.  Summer school is a program established by the District to provide eligible students in elementary, middle, and high schools the opportunity to remediate courses in order to obtain credit, or meet program requirements.

The District’s Summer School Program is specifically designed for students’ individual needs.  At the elementary level, Pre-kindergarten thru 5th students are eligible if they have not met promotional requirements and/or are Limited English Proficient.  Additionally, 5th grade students who did not pass the Reading and Math sections of the STAAR exams will be offered summer-accelerated instruction prior to the summer retesting dates. This year, thirteen elementary campuses will be host sites.

The middle school program offers courses to students who have failed two or three core academic courses.  Additionally, 8th grade students who did not pass the Reading and Math sections of the STAAR exams will be offered summer-accelerated instruction prior to the summer retesting dates.  Middle schools will offer a total of five summer school sites and STEP Academy.
At the high school level, eligible high school students will have the opportunity to take up to two classes to earn course credit.  Accelerated instruction for students who fail an End-of Course Assessment will also be available at each high school host site.  This year, United High School and Lyndon B. Johnson High School host summer school.

The District expects over 8,000 students to participate in its summer program.  The program not only helps students experience educational success but also offers fun in education, great meals, and superior staff to ensure the progress of all students.  Courses such as Math, Reading, Science, and accelerated instruction for STAAR help the United ISD Summer School Program reach success by building greater minds.
