lunaLaredo, TX  – A traffic stop by a Webb County Sheriff deputy led to the arrests of two local men.

Around 3 a.m. Tuesday, a Sheriff Deputy pulled over a gold Chrysler driven by Jose Mario Luna III, 19, near the intersection of Loop 20 and Casa Blanca Lake Road. As the deputy approached the vehicle, he noticed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A further inspection of the vehicle revealed a small box with a clear plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance. Also found in the back seat was a plastic bag containing 7 cupcakes, 1 rice crispy treat and a cake frosting. Several glass smoking pipes and a marijuana grinder were confiscated.

Authorities report that Luna stated he and his passenger, James Humberto Acosta, 18, bought the items together which were homemade and laced with marijuana for $50.

“We are working to determine who the distributor is for these laced pastries,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “With graduation season upon us, it’s crucial that parents keep a closer eye on their children and educate them about the risk of consuming these pastries.”

Luna and Acosta were arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana. Both suspects remain at the Webb County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
