(Laredo, Texas)_The District Attorney’s Office has secured a guilty plea in its case against Adrian Vicente Barbosa.   On November 15, 2015, the Laredo Police Department Narcotics Unit arrived at a residence on the corner of San Pedro St. and Tilden Ave., where information was received information that approximately 200 pounds of marijuana was being stored.  The owner of the residence and her son, Adrian Vicente Barbosa, allowed police to search the home and its surroundings.

Officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from a vehicle parked inside the property.  Soon after, Laredo Police K-9 positively alerted the presence of illegal drugs inside the vehicle. Once the vehicle was open, several wrapped bundles and plastic bags were found containing coke, marijuana and money. Barbosa denied having any knowledge of those items being in the vehicle, which he claimed belonged to a friend who had recently passed away.

On January 30, 2015, Barbosa was arrested and prosecuted for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, both second-degree felonies in the State of Texas.
The trial, which took place before the 341st District Court Judge Rebecca Palomo, was heard by a jury over the course of two days, who rendered their guilty verdict after three hours of deliberation. Adrian Vicente Barbosa was sentenced to 10 years for each count to serve in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institution Division.
Assistant District Attorneys Francisco Rodriguez, Paul Thomson and David Reuthinger prosecuted the case for the State.
