teache4rsLaredo, TX: Walmart employees visited Veterans Memorial Elementary School where 20 lucky teachers won $50 gift cards to purchase classroom supplies that will enhance learning in the classroom. This was part of their annual effort to help teachers purchase much-needed classroom supplies through Walmart’s Teacher Rewards program.

“We are proud to be at Veterans Memorial Elementary School, United ISD’s newest elementary campus, helping teachers buy the supplies they need to further student academic progress,” said Monico Herrera, General Manager for Walmart Local Office of Compliance. “We know that teachers often use their own money to ensure students have what they need to be successful in the classroom.”

Through this program, thousands of U.S. Walmart stores, distribution centers and Sam’s Club locations select one school to provide $50 reward cards to 20 teachers. These teachers can use the funds to purchase essential items for their classrooms such as paper, folders, binders, clipboards, pens, pencils, crayons and markers.

“We would like to thank Walmart for being so considerate of our educators at United ISD,” said Superintendent Roberto J. Santos. “Their generosity and support is greatly appreciated.”

In addition to the gift cards, Walmart also treated teachers to dessert and coffee in the school’s library and gave each teacher a Walmart insulated mug.

Herrera and his staff members thanked the teachers for being dedicated to their profession and for going the extra mile for their students.
