(Laredo, Texas)-The United ISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos recently promoted two individuals to administrative positions in the District. Cynthia M. Ramirez will be the Executive Director of the Special Education Department and Raquel E. Alvarado will be the new Principal of Prada Elementary School. The decision was announced during a Special Called Meeting of the Board of Trustees on May 4, 2014.
“As with all of our administrators, Ms. Ramirez and Ms. Alvarado will continue to work to see that every child reach their fullest potential, as all children have the ability to succeed,” said United ISD Superintendent Roberto J. Santos. “I expect all of our educators and administrators to do more than educate our children…they must also improve and enrich the lives of our students.”
Ramirez, currently serves as an assistant principal at United South High School. Prior to that, she served as an assistant principal, speech teacher, Dean of the VMT School of Communications and Fine Arts-Communications School, and an English/Journalism teacher at Laredo I.S.D. She also served as a recruiter for the College of Education at Texas A&M International University. Ramirez holds a Bachelor’s degree from Laredo State University and Master’s degree from Texas A&M International University. Ramirez will replace the vacant position left by Martha Moke who moved to another Texas public school district to work with special education students.
Ramirez said she is excited about her new responsibilities and mentioned Dr. Temple Grandin, an autistic activist by stating, “We need to focus on what all our students can do. If we believe in them, they can do it.”
Alvarado, is currently an assistant principal at Borchers Elementary School. Her previous experience includes working as an elementary school teacher in Brownsville ISD and United ISD. She has her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Brownsville. Alvarado will replace Gilbert Castro who has been named the principal of the new elementary school that will open in the new school year. The new elementary school is located in South Laredo, across from Lamar Bruni Vegara Middle School.
“I am proud and excited to have been selected as the principal of Prada Elementary. I am looking forward to working together to make a difference in our students’ educational endeavors and success!” said Alvarado.
Ramirez and Alvarado will assume their new roles in the new school year.
