Certification of JP Pct.4 Employees

(Laredo, Texas)-It is with great pleasure to announce the certification of Lydia Palos and Alicia Rodriguez, now Certified Justice of the Peace Court Personnel Level I Clerks, after passing the exam at the Justice Court Training Center of Texas State University for “Justice of the Peace Personnel Level I Certification Exam”.

I believe that our clerks must learn the basic fundamentals and become “Certified Justice Court Clerks” to better serve the community with trained individuals to be able to differentiate the jurisdiction and venue of the justice court. Each one of them must understand computation of time, cash bonds and be able to identify petition and all its contests as well as know that every case can NOT be filed without a fee or affidavit of inability.

Among their study guides to pass the examination some of these topics were included as part as the educational knowledge:

·         Identify the time frame for modifying a pleading, understand requisites of a citation and who may serve it.

·         Identify when a defendant’s answer is due and know the effects of a general denial.

·         Learn the difference between counterclaims, cross claims and third party claims.

·         Identify all filing requirements and timing for all judgments, motion to transfer venue, trial settings and continuance, nonsuits, dismissals for want of Prosecution and summaries of Prosecution.

·         Understand the role of discovery in Justice Court and know the surrounding of the use of a jury in a civil case. Know the filing requirements, court action, and timing requirements of all post-judgment procedures.

·         Know all of Chapter 45 of the Code of Criminal Procedures as well as understand the venue issues In Justice Court Criminal Cases.

·         Understand the requirements of deferred disposition and Drivers safety courses.

·         Identify penalties and sanctions for alcohol offenses and know which individuals must plead guilty in open court offenses.

·         Understanding the requirements of confidentiality for juvenile records.

·         And many more.

The Level I exam consisted of multiple choice and they successfully passed the State examination for Level I Criminal and Civil Certification Exams.
