Laredo, TX – The Webb County Jail, under the leadership of Sheriff Martin Cuellar, has passed inspection by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards with a perfect score for the seventh consecutive year, having once again made history in Webb County.
The unannounced meticulous inspection began early Wednesday morning with the inspector completing the assessment on Thursday. No deficiencies were found in the array of areas inspected ranging from health and safety, building maintenance, life safety equipment and procedures, inmate to guard ratio and medical, classification and kitchen compliance. The inspection also took a close look at inmate services such as grievances, religious practices, work assignments and correspondence. It was also important for the inspector to review the holding cells at the Justice Center that are incorporated with judicial courtrooms.
“This passing of the jail inspection is a direct reflection of the hardworking men and women we have at our jai1,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “This is definitely an accomplishment of which to feel proud.”
Not an easy feat to accomplish, Phillip Bosquez with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards stated it was visible to see the team effort from Sheriff Cuellar and jail staff, as together they work to maintain compliance and continue making progress to not only pass but ace the inspection. “The dedication of the employees at the jail is evident in how smoothly the inspection went,” said Bosquez.
Visible improvements could be seen at the Webb County Jail where Sheriff Cuellar has clearly made it a top priority to ensure the safety of personnel, inmates and visitors. Aside from the gated jail parking lot, security checkpoint, the installation of 24/7 indoor and outdoor surveillance cameras/lighting some of the latest improvements include the new X-ray body scanner and the final phase of the independent air conditioner.
All which have been necessary security measures made possible through grant funding and forfeiture funds. The Webb County Sheriff’s Office will continue to move forward in maintaining compliance for the safety of everyone who enters the jail.
