(Laredo, Texas)-Saturday, March 21, 2015 will be a special day to celebrate all things Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) at “Discover TAMIU,” a family-friendly event focused on opening doors and minds to the importance of higher education at “The International U.”
Scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the 300-acre campus, the free event celebrates the excitement and discovery made possible at TAMIU for all, said Dr. Ray Keck, TAMIU president.
“We’ve designed this event to welcome students of all ages, their families and friends to discover ‘The International U.’ We’ll have over 100 experience opportunities, all underscoring the excitement about what this special corner of Texas does every day to brighten futures, lift hearts and open minds. Whether a child or a retiree or somewhere in between, on this special day, our focus is on sharing the importance of education and the possibilities it makes real,” Dr. Keck said.
He noted that for nearly 45 years, TAMIU has been a portal to brighter futures and limitless possibilities.
“Generations have begun or completed their studies here — with over 20,000 graduates making their mark here and everywhere,” Keck explained.
Gina Gonzalez, associate vice president for Student Success and one of the event’s key organizers, said “Discover TAMIU” gives people of all ages a chance to experience TAMIU.
“At ‘Discover TAMIU,’ you’ll tap into the Dustdevil Spirit and learn about a place of infinite possibilities. You’ll learn about a world-class education, delivered by a gifted faculty. You’ll learn about a campus that daily radiates culture, knowledge, tradition and cutting-edge discovery. TAMIU faculty, staff and students will present over 100 fun experiences and events on five different pathways — taking our visitors from classroom to boardroom and from laboratory to the very heavens above,” Gonzalez said.
The University has set up a dedicated web site updated with event information. It also allows large groups to make arrangements to be part of the excitement at http://www.tamiu.edu/discovertamiu/
The event is also being shared via the University’s social media with information available on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
