(Laredo, Tx)-UISD congratulates Adrian Martinez and Carlos Morales from Alexander high school for obtaining multiple IRS certifications in Basic, Advance, Military and International tax preparation. The two seniors learned their subject matter and prepared for rigorous IRS tests while under the tutelage of Alexander CTE teacher (and IRS program sponsor), Adrianna Bautista.
Adrian Martinez developed an interest in becoming certified while taking a financial analysis class during the fall of 2014. “Everything can be accomplished through determination and patience”, said Adrian, who has been accepted at TAMIU and plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in music performance. Martinez also wishes to earn a masters and doctorates in music performance and conducting.
For Carlos Morales, obtaining multiple IRS certifications has proven to be a transforming and humbling experience. Morales expressed gratitude for the support he received from his teacher. “I could not have achieved my certifications without help from my amazing teacher, Ms. Adrianna Bautista”, said Morales, who also expressed appreciation for the support of his parents and peers. Morales is a member of the Graphic Art Club and is planning to attend the University of Texas at Austin to study biomedical engineering.
Martinez and Morales are now lending their talents to the Laredo Family Economic Success Coalition’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. The program provides no cost tax preparation services to low and moderate income individuals and families. Certified students work under the guidance of their teacher(s) when preparing forms for clients. The tax assistance program will continue to offer services through April 14, 2015 at all UISD high school campuses.
