uisd(Laredo, Tx)-The United ISD Office of Federal and Compensatory Programs awarded three District campuses with $1,000 each for having the highest number of parents attend the District’s Parent Festival held on October 25 at United High School. The three campuses that were awarded funds were: Nye Elementary School, Trautmann Middle School and United South High School.

The event, coordinated by the Department, was free to all United ISD parents and offered a wide range of sessions that focused on how parents can help their child be successful at home and in the classroom.  All sessions were offered in English and Spanish.

“We had a great turnout at the Parent Festival,” said United ISD Executive Director of Federal and State Compensatory Program Elia M. Juarez.  “Parents must know that the earlier they become involved in the education of their child, the more significant the impact on their overall achievement and success.”

Activity camps were available to children at the festival which were coordinated by Lisa Haberkorn of the Athletic Department. Several community organizations were also present and gave out information on their respective programs and services to parents.  Many door prizes were given participants that day and free breakfast and lunch was served to all who attended.
