Muller Elementary 3rd Grade Class #1 in Pumpkin Patch Contest

(Laredo, Tx)-The annual Pumpkin Patch Contest at Muller Elementary gives students an opportunity to showcase their creativity. Students in grades Pre-k through 5th are grouped into teams. Each team selects a book and depicts characters from the book through pumpkin art. Judges from UISD and the community judge the projects. “At the start of October, teachers and faculty worked closely with students to help them develop their projects. The students look forward to this activity every year and demonstrate a great interest in books from different genres ”, said Alejandra Garza, school librarian. The annual Pumpkin Patch Contest is designed to encourage students to read and is tied into the Accelerated Reading program.
This years’ contest winners are as follows:
First Place: 3rd Grade with 107 points for Alice in Wonderland
Second Place: (tie): both Pre-K and Second Grade earned 88 points each.
Pre-K for The Little Red Hen and 2nd grade for Goosebumps
Third Place: 4th grade with 86 points for The Magic School Bus
