Sheriff’s Office deputies receive CPR, First Aid Certification

Laredo, TX (Webb County) – More than 70 Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies are more prepared should a critical medical emergency arise.
A total of 75 W.C.S.O. deputies received the necessary training to respond to and manage a first aid, choking, or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. The critical skills training was provided free of charge by the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department and Angel Care Ambulance Service.
“We want to continue our partnership with the deputies out on the field,” said Chief Ricardo A. Rangel. “By adding this training, you’re increasing the survival rate of an individual.”
The training also plays a key role in allowing the deputy to not only assist the patient, but also report to EMS personal and dispatch the initial extent of injuries and the patient’s general assessment.
“The Webb County Sheriff’s Office is very appreciative that these deputies were able to take part in the training,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “The additional training aids our deputies in an effort to better assist the community.”
Angel Care Ambulance Service said they are looking forward to a continued partnership with the Sheriff’ Office.
“Our next goal is to not only train more deputies, but also reach out to the radio communications dispatchers,” said Angel Garcia, of Angel Care Ambulance Service.
The CPR and AED American Heart Association Certification is valid for two years.
