Laredo, TX (Webb County) – A thorough investigation by the Webb County Sherriff’s Office led to the arrest of a man accused of animal cruelty.
A concerned resident alerted authorities that a mixed-breed male dog outside a residence in the 1600 block of Monterrey Avenue was walking around with duct tape across his mouth. On Monday, Webb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators found the man responsible for the crime, Alfredo Romero, 49. The suspect admitted to wrapping the dog’s mouth with duct tape but when asked why he did it, he had no specific answer.
The dog was taken to the Laredo Animal Protective Society where he is receiving treatment and will be taken care of.
Romero was arrested and taken to the Webb County jail. He is facing charges for Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animal. He remains at the jail on a $3,000 bond.
Sheriff Martin Cuellar reminds the public to also be on the lookout for our four-legged friends and always report cruelty to animals.
“We as the public have to look out for them, we serve as their voice,” Cuellar said.
