Laredo, TX (Webb County) –In anticipation of the 2014-2015 school year, the Webb County Sheriff’s Office distributed essential school supplies and backpacks to 150 underprivileged children living in the Laredo and Webb County area.

It was a full house at Royal Receptions Hall Friday morning as children from local community centers anxiously waited to receive their backpacks filled with school supplies.

“It’s truly heart-warming to see the smiles on the faces of these children,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “To know that we are able to assist in sending them back to school prepared is a rewarding experience.”

The children not only received school supplies, but were also given vouchers for haircuts. During the distribution, the children were also treated to a big party with music, pizza, popcorn and soft drinks.

A magic show was specially crafted for this event by magician Robert Michael, who is also employed by the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.

“We are extremely thankful for the law enforcement teams who joined us at the softball tournament, to those who donated supplies during our “Fill the Bus” school supply drive, and during our “Back to School” backpack and bucket brigade,” Cuellar added. “This was a complete community effort; thanks to everyone who contributed.”
